The Algoma Central
Your gateway to some of Ontario's best fishing.
I ride the Algoma Central Railway to get to many of my favorite Northern Ontario Fishing camps. Starting at Sault Ste Marie can be an interesting trip. Some of the most beautiful scenery is through the Agawa Canyon. But mostly, I drive to the train station at Hawk Junction (just East of Wawa, Ontario) and jump on the northbound train there.
Ice Fishing Too!
Soft water in N. Ontario is the best. Once I find a lake, I can zip around and try new spots in minutes. Well, maybe not always zip. There are plenty of rocks in N. Ontario waters. But it's still a lot faster than fishing on ice.
Having said that, some of the best N. Ontario fishing is hard water fishing. My favorite month is March. The ice is generally still good and thick but the sun is warmer and the days are getting longer and the fish are getting hungry and well, it's just a party!

What a beautiful lens. I grew up on the Minnesota - Ontario boarder at Kabetogama Lake. I know there is some good fishing up there too! :))

in reply to lochisland Yup. I fished Wabatongushi. I stayed with Abby at Erringtons. It has been a few years. Now I generally head a little farther north and fall off the train in Oba to fish Cameron Lake. Or I head up the 129 to Hinkler Road and fish those lakes. My problem is I'm always looking for new water and sometimes it takes me a few years to get back to a lake I've fished before.

Hey Deb! So you've fished Wabatongushi Lake? Have you stayed at Loch Island Lodge before as well? If not, I recommend it highly! Nice pics by the way!
